A: It allowed me to use nicer colors than the rather ropey 216 Web safe colors. — Marcos Drake [add comment]

A: It mainly brought us a lot of gradients ... In general the 216 colors were enough, i think even 128 would be ok. On the other hand Cool3D GIFs that make use of the full color scale look much better than the ones with only web save colors. — drx [add comment]
