User Guide

Finding a specific answer/question
Start with deciding whether you want to search by answer or by question. Restrict the search by using the drop-down menu, or simply type a search term. You can also use a combination of both.

Showing all answers/questions by a specific author
Click the name of the author who submitted the question/answer you are viewing.

Leaving a comment
Select the answer you want to comment on and click 'add a comment'. If you want to respond to the site in general, please write us at editor@designtimeline.org.

Selecting favorite questions
Click on the grey circle next to a question. If the question is marked with a black star, it means you have already selected this question as favorite. If the star is grey, it means you have submitted this question yourself. To remove a favorite from your list, click on the black star. To view your favorite questions, select 'your favorites' from the drop-down menu.

Submitting an answer
First select the question you want to answer and click 'answer this question'. If you are not already logged in, you will be asked to do so. Type your answer to the question in the text box and select the year you want this answer to appear in the timeline. Select the correct language by typing a new language name or choosing one from the list. Click 'save' to store your answer. We appreciate it if you take the time to upload images. Click 'save' and your answer and optional attachment are submitted.

Attaching an image to your answer
Prepare the image on your harddisk. This can be a screenshot, a photograph, a logo... Supported formats are: JPEG, GIF, PNG. Please limit images to no larger than 640 by 480 pixels. A thumbnail image will automatically be generated for you. Attach the file to your answer using the 'choose file' button. Click save and your image is stored. Use the Wayback Machine to recover an archived snapshot of your page. The Wayback machine is a service of archive.org.

Submitting a question
Click 'add a new question'. If you are not already logged in, you will be asked to do so. Type your question in the text box and select the correct language by typing a new language name or choosing one from the list. Click 'ok'. Your question may be similar to questions that were submitted earlier. If so, the system will ask you you to edit or change your question; it will be rechecked before being added. If you are sure that your question hasn't already been asked, click 'ok' and your question will be added.

Editing an answer
To do this you need to be logged in. Select the answer you want to edit, and click 'edit your answer'. You can only edit answers you have submitted yourself. You may edit your anwers until they are commented upon. If you change your mind after that point, use the comment option.

Removing a question/answer
Currently this is not possible. If you really need a question/answer removed, please write us at editor@designtimeline.org. Questions that have been answered by others than you, or answers that have been commented, will in principle not be removed.

My answer/question was removed
Contributions are moderated in case of spam or when overlaps between questions and/or different translations appear.

Forgot password
Go to the login page and click the 'forgot password' button. Your password will be resent to you by email.
